POBR2206 day 11 Lava Tubes

Our group was in charge of dishes this am and after everyone had breakfast and made their lunches we started to do them. Once we were finished we started packing up camp and gathered the empty water bottles so we could refill them. Once we were done we started making our way to the lava river cave and lava lands.we met Alex he has a background in forestry like fire management and fuels. who is giving us a tour of the lava tubes and surrounding area.we also had a small presentation by Christine Hughe  who is a park ranger. We waited for 10 am thats when the shuttle bus was doing the first trip up to lava butte look out. Which was a good walk around the top and showed some pretty good views of the surrounding area.once we were done up there we waited for the shuttle to get back so we can make our way back down.once we got back down we followed Alex over to the next stop which was the lava tube cave. Which for my first time seeing was absolutely amazing and beautiful. When we go there we had met with Karen walsh, Cassidy, and Skylar. Who work with discovery northwest. Skylar and Cassidy are the two who took us on the tour of the lava river caves.they told us that the lava river caves are 75,000 years old. The cave has 14 out of the 15 native bat species that call the cave home. After did the tour we went back to the other site where we met with Alex and ate our lunch. After we finished our lunch we went down the road to benham falls. Where we had the trail that was optional to walk. You could walk the trail or stay behind and chill in the pic nic area. I chose to chill in the picnic area. LOL so after we're finished here we will be stopping by a resort so we can take our showers. Once we get back to camp we will be staying dinner and doing our chemistry part of our soil samples.
