POBR2026 Day 7 Glenwood

 today we woke up the usual 6 am wake up time. but we didn't do our usual morning routine of helping with breakfast. we immediately packed up our tents and made our trip over to pasco so that we could switch drivers since Juan M. has a family matter to tend to this weekend. so we will have a new driver starting today. the exchange point for the drivers is at Starbucks in pasco. once we got here we got a refreshing drink from starbucks and breakfast sandwich. we waited at the Pasco Starbucks for the new driver and for the rest of the other classmates. as they left about an hour after us, since they had to get the breakfast and lunch supplies ready. but we packed up the truck with majority of the things that needed to be packed so it would be a lot smoother transition to leave. once they get here we will be making our way to our new site which is in Glenwood,WA. once we get there there will be no service, no power, and no running water. once we get to Glenwood we will set up our camp and probably prepare for dinner. I will upload photos of the morning trip. after we finish our full trip I will update later with more photos once we get access to wifi. I also attached a photo of our soil samples that we collected as well.

2nd half of the day

We made our trip from starbucks onward to glenwood. Where we met up with Dr. Schuster. He showed us where the campgrounds would be for the next 3 days. We waited at the glenwood gas station for about an hour or so. Once he showed up we followed him to the campgrounds. The campgrounds name is bird creek campground. We got everything set up, got all the tables set up, got the sleeping bags, sleeping pads and tents out along with the camping chairs and coolers. Once we got the camping stove set up Monet started on making dinner. We had chicken fajitas with chips and salsa. Once everyone finished eating we had a little introduction since Dr.Schuster and Salvador Ayala just joined the trip. Dr.Schuster was only here for a tiny bit of time before he had to make the trip back home which was in portland,OR. After each of us introduced ourselves and our majors and a favorite part of this trip so far. Dr.schuster also talked about his research that he is performing at OSU (Oregon State University). And salvador told us about what research he is doing and when he graduated. I attached photos of the campsite.

day 2 fish hatchery

 today on day 1 we spent the day at the Spokane fish hatchery. when we got there we had a small instuction presentation from monette on how to make a salmon life cycle bracelet, which we helped the 3rd,4th and 5th graders make at the fish hatchery. since the fish hatchery had a student field trip day. after our lunch break before the next wave of kids showed up we had a small tour of the hatchery which was led by an employee named Anthony. we were at the Spokane fish hatchery until 2pm. once we got back to camp we took a small break and started our soil survey. where we took some soil samples and got them prepped to get tested. after we spent part of the evening getting camp ready for dinner which was chicken Alfredo, steamed broccoli and carrots, salad, and bread. which was delicious thanks to monette's cooking.

POBR2026 DAY 13 Seed Extractory and Deschutes Public library

Today we got to sleep in until 730 am. Felt kind of relieved we have a day where we're not on a tight schedule and rushing to get to the meet up spot. So having a good normal paced day feels pretty good. Today our group was in charge of getting breakfast ready and the lunch supplies. We are also helping with dinner as well. After we got our lunches made and ate our breakfast we made our trip to the seed Extractory. Where we will be getting a tour at 10 am. Which I think will be a good tour can't wait to see what goes down. I have never been here before so it will be a good experience. When we arrived here we had a small talk with Kayla Herriman who is the national seed specialist. Kayla herriman showed us a couple raw seed material one was ambrosia. Kayla also showed us where they X-ray the seed to see if it has an embryo. Because if it doesn't have an ambryo than it won't be able to grow a tree. PO R2026 Day 12 Botany Field Day

started off the day as usual the breakfast group got breakfast and lunch supplies ready. Our group was in charge of clean up. After we got everything put away we started to gather our things. We gathered our notebooks, soil sample supplies, and our shower stuff. Once we had everything packed up we started the trip to go meet up with Marlo. We stopped and gassed up the vehicles.excited to see what we will learn today. Yesterday was in my experience the best day so far.we met Marlo at the meet up spot and she is leading us to the site we will be at for the day. Can't wait to see how this day goes.once we got to the site we were on the hunt for the pumus moonwort. And I must say it was pretty awesome to look for. Put my eyes to work lol on the way back I had to stop and look at something faraway so my eyes would stop hurting. After lunch we made our way to stop at a natural spring that is rare to see in this area. After we looked at that we made our way to the second site....
